Jesus and Jewish Prayer

Featuring "Jesus and the Shema, Phylacteries and Fringes" by Fr. Frizzell and "The Lord's Prayer in the Teaching of Jesus" by Dr. Glazov

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Nostra Aetate and the 40th anniversary of its founding, the Graduate Program in Jewish-Christian Studies is sponsoring the lecture, "Jesus and Jewish Prayer" on October 22, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. in the Beck Rooms on the First Floor of the Walsh University Library at Seton Hall University.This event will feature the presentations “Jesus and the Shema, Phylacteries and Fringes" by the Reverend Lawrence Frizzell, D.Phil. and ”The Lord's Prayer in the Teaching of Jesus" by Gregory Glazov, D.Phil.

Father Lawrence Frizzell is Director and Associate Professor of the Graduate Program in Jewish-Christian Studies and the Director of the Institute of Judaeo-Christian Studies at Seton Hall University. In 2008 Pope Benedict XVI appointed Father Frizzell Consultor to the Commission for Religious Relations with the Jews in the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, and Pope Francis renewed his appointment in 2014. A specialist in Jewish-Christian studies and relations, Father Frizzell also explores the impact of Biblical traditions on Catholic liturgy, prayer and ethics.

Dr. Gregory Glazov is Professor of Biblical Studies in Seton Hall's Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology (ICSST). He earned M.Phil. and D.Phil. degrees in Jewish Studies in the Graeco-Roman World from Oxford University. His doctoral dissertation, "The 'Bridling of the Tongue' and the 'Opening of the Mouth' in Biblical Prophecy," was published by Sheffield Academic Press in 2001. Dr. Glazov also serves as Coordinator of the Great Spiritual Books program of ICSST's Institute for Christian Spirituality.
