ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — It was a day to honor the lives of Holocaust survivors – and draw strength for the future.

Earlier this month, Jewish Family Service of MetroWest NJ (JFSMW) and Jewish Family Service of Central NJ honored several community members at an event filled with music, food and celebration for Holocaust Survivor Day.

In all, more than 80 survivors, second-generation children and caregivers were in attendance at Oheb Shalom Congregation in South Orange on June 4.

The attendees enjoyed a performance of “Lyricism Then & Now” with Carolyn Enger an international concert pianist and Steinway Artist. Each survivor was also given a plant to recognize their lives and resiliency.

“Now more than ever, it’s important for us to come together to recognize and honor the lives of the Holocaust survivors who represent the strength of our community,” Director of Holocaust Services Liz Levy said.
