John Solecki Home with Family

After being imprisoned for two months by militants in northwest Pakistan, U.N. aid worker John Solecki is home with family in South Orange.

U.N. aid worker John Solecki, 49, is safe at his parents' Park Place residence after spending two months as the prisoner of a militant group in northwest Pakistan.

Held captive since Feb. 2, Solecki was found on the evening of April 4 in western Pakistan near the Afghan border with his hands and feet bound. A group called the Baluchistan Liberation United Front had claimed responsibility for his abduction.

The shades were drawn at Solecki's parents' home late this morning, but the front door opened a crack around 11:45 a.m., and members of the media were told that Solecki would speak in 15 minutes.

Shortly after noon, Solecki emerged from the driveway with his brother, William—a professor at Hunter College of the City University of New York, who also lives in South Orange—and briefly addressed the flock of reporters.

"I'm a little bit tired right now, so I just want to rest up with my family," he said, before walking across Grove Park with his brother.
