City of Orange, NJ – (July 1, 2023) – The Food Truck And Jazz Festival 2023, co-sponsored by the Essex County Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs, the City of Orange Recreation and Cultural Affairs and Curated by Gregory Burrus Productions, returns for 2023 with another stellar list of musicians. The City of Orange Food Truck and Jazz Festival 2023 will be on July 8th, 2023 from 12 - 8 PM. and will bring the joy of jazz and great food directly to jazz lovers right close to home in the City’s Monte Irvin Orange Park.

It will be a local jazz lover’s delight as listeners will be up close and personal with the musicians and be able to share their love of jazz with them while engaging with family and friends during one of the best free all day, outdoor, Food Truck And Jazz Festival experiences in the Northeast. The festival will be hosted by MC Singer, Performer Lynette Sheard.

This year’s performances presents 10 local and national live music bands with musicians that have performed in numerous local venues and many international venues and halls.

A key performance will be an opening tribute to a hometown hero by the trombonist Peter Lin Quartet for the internationally renowned jazz trombonist, arranger, and composer Slide Hampton. Joining Peter will be Brandon McCune, Alvetser Garnett and Tom DiCarlo.

This year’s rising star performance will be JD Warren and the Rudiment. Off a number of outstanding, super crowd pleasing performances, including a very memorable Rutgers Institute of Jazz Studies, Clements Place Jazz performance which featured singer Dermel Warren who has recently wowed audiences alongside Valerie Simpson and others.

Get ready for an unforgettable performance by saxophonist Bradford Hayes and his quartet! They have been dominating the jazz scene in the northeastern U.S. for years which also includes the talented organist Radam Schwartz.

Don't miss the incredible Dave Stryker, our star performer and recording artist! He's spent over a decade working alongside jazz legend Stanley Turrentine and has been voted a top Jazz Guitarist an impressive 10 times in the Downbeat Critics and Readers Polls. Joined by drummer McClenty Hunter and organist Jared Gold, be ready for some unforgettable music at Midday!

Join us to witness the incredible talent of Drummer Victor Jones and his band. As a true innovator and visionary his performances are filled with infectious energy that will have you on your feet. A special treat will be bassist Alex Blake, a major proponent of the fusion movement in the late 1970s and has performed with Lenny White, Billy Cobham, Monguito Santamaria, Celia Cruz Sun Ra, Dizzy Gillespie’s, Freddie Hubbard, Art Blakey, McCoy Tyner, Stan Getz, Pharoah Sanders and many others.

This year's “jazz and more” segment will be delivered by the Blues People performing some serious “Neo Blues " which combines the elements of contemporary rhythm and blues, 1970's style soul music, hip hop, rap, jazz, and funk. Neo Blues, a modern chronicle of four real-life blues brothers, Kelton Cooper, Mike Griot, Gene Lake and Ron Thompson who are living in THIS time America - and surviving the NY/NJ landscape .

The late day featured performers will be packed with legends.

Swinging guitarists Matt Cherkoff’s trio features one of the most recorded jazz saxophonists alive, the legendary Houston Person who spent many years as vocalist Etta Jones musical partner. Matt has performed or recorded with Fathead Newman, Grady Tate, Curtis Lundy, Bobby Forrester, Venesa Rubin, Cecil Brooks, Bernie Worrell, Percy Sledge, Lester Chambers and appeared on international TV shows on Telemundo and Nippon networks.

This will be followed by another living legend, Dizzy Gillespie's bassist for over 10 years, the Grammy winning musician, recording engineer and Iconic bassist John Lee. He will be accompanied by a trio featuring the rising Brazilian star pianist, singer, and composer Abelita Mateus.

The Food Truck And Jazz Festival night will be headlined by the 16 piece Lance Bryant and Shout Big Band led by saxophonist, arranger and vocalist Lance Bryant. SHOUT! features some of the finest musicians in the NY/NJ area in a modern big band setting performing hip arrangements of new jazz classics and originals by master arranger and tenor saxophonist Lance Bryant. With a history that includes a decade-long relationship with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra and became the Orchestra's Musical Director and Principal Arranger.

Lance also made his film debut in Spike Lee's Malcolm X and traveled extensively with Phyllis Hyman, Jon Hendricks, Pete "LaRocca" Sims, James Williams and others. Lance currently performs monthly for an extended residency at Rutgers Institute of Jazz Studies Clements Place Jazz in Newark, NJ.
