Kate Schmidt Named Recreation Director
She had filled the position on an interim basis since Andy Brady left in January.
A Board of Trustees resolution passed on Monday night named Kate Schmidt the director of the South Orange Department of Recreation, a position she has held since January, when Andy Brady resigned weeks before he was charged with theft for failure to deposit $1,113 in cash from five concerts into Village coffers. (He pleaded guilty last week and won't serve jail time.)
Village President Doug Newman noted that Schmidt, a seven-year Recreation employee who had served as an assistant director under Brady, had "stepped into the fray at really a moment's notice."
