Seton Hall Sends in the Clowns at SOPAC

Seton Hall University Theatre is proud to present A Little Night Music, April 21-24 at the South Orange Performing Arts Center.

This weekend Seton Hall University Theatre will open a timeless musical theatre experience. A Little Night Music, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Hugh Wheeler, is the Tony award-winning musical full of hilariously witty and heartbreakingly moving moments of adoration, regret and desire. The production runs April 21-24 at the South Orange Performing Arts Center in South Orange, N.J. Tickets are free and may be reserved at the SOPAC website.

Set in 1900 Sweden, A Little Night Music explores the web of affairs centered around actress Desirée Armfeldt, played by Gabriella Markey '16, and the men who love her: a lawyer by the name of Fredrik Egerman, played by Gus Glazov '17, and the Count Carl-Magnus Malcom, played by Devin McGuire '16. When Desirée performs in Fredrik's town, the estranged lovers' passion rekindles.

This strikes up jealousy and suspicion between Desirée, Fredrik, Fredrick's wife, Anne, played by Antoinette Gardner '18, Desirée's current lover, the Count, and the Count's wife, Charlotte, played by Elise Pfail '16. Both men, as well as their jealous wives, agree to join Desirée and her family for a weekend in the country at Desirée's mother's estate. With everyone in one place, there are infinite possibilities of new romances and endless surprises.

Since its original 1973 Broadway production, the musical has enjoyed professional productions in the West End by opera companies and a 2009 Broadway revival. A Little Night Music has won four Tony Awards and numerous other accolades.

A Little Night Music will be performed at SOPAC April 21-23 at 8 p.m. and April 24 at 2 p.m. The production is free and open to all.
