Local Police and Firefighters Race for Charity

Twelve members of the South Orange police and fire departments participated in the Jersey Shore Relay Marathon this Saturday, running from the Aztec Ocean Resort in Seaside Heights to the Convention Hall in Asbury Park.

The relay team comprised of five firefighters—Steve O'Connor, Matt Newman, Jim Jennings, Pete Scott and Hester Anderson—placed 180th out of 404, and the team of five police department members and two firefighters—Chief Jim Chelel, Mike Pannullo, Bill Crofts, Sasha Heinz, John Niedzinski, Jim DeFino and John Denvir—placed 285th.

The two teams raised $600 on behalf of the Special Olympics.
