He was taken to UMDNJ for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
A 25-year-old man who crashed his motorcycle just over the Newark border on Sunday night after allegedly attempted to elude South Orange police was taken to UMDNJ with non-life threatening injuries.
Shortly before 9:55 p.m., Officer Robert Infantes observed a motorcycle driver run a red light at Prospect St. and Irvington Ave. He pursued the driver, who was headed east on Irvington Avenue and subsequently pulled onto the sidewalk around parked cars and ran another light at Irvington and Tichenor Ave., according to Police Chief James Chelel. Officer Infantes activated his sirens and continued in pursuit but stopped at the Newark border. The suspect crashed a short distance later at a bend by Essex Avenue, near Ivy Hill Plaza.
Newark and Maplewood police responded, and the suspect—Mujahdeem Nance, 25, of Newark—was transported to the hospital by the South Orange Rescue Squad. He was issued summonses for driving through a red light, reckless driving, and driving with a suspended licence. He was also charged with eluding by the South Orange Police Department.
