Missing Woman Safe; Seen At South Orange Starbucks, Found In NY

Police continue to search for a missing woman with Alzheimer’s disease who was last seen at a Starbucks in South Orange on Monday evening. The woman may have boarded a NJ Transit train towards New York in an effort to reach her childhood home in Brooklyn, New York, authorities say.
According to the South Orange Police Department, Jean Hinds, 82, walked away from her adult assisted care facility and was last seen at the Starbucks Coffee at 11 South Orange Avenue in South Orange between 10 and 10:30 p.m.

“She is believed to have taken the NJ Transit train heading towards New York and is possibly heading for her childhood residence… in Brooklyn,” South Orange police stated.
Authorities said that Hinds was last seen wearing a gray-hooded sweatshirt and gray pants with a thin, black coat. She may speak with a “slight British or island accent,” and is not believed to have any credit cards or cash, but may have a yellow bag with a Medicare card.

South Orange police said that as of 5 p.m. on Tuesday, all area hospitals have been contacted as well as multiple hospitals in New York. South Orange police have also alerted all New Jersey police departments as well as the New York City and New York State police departments, police in Queens, Bronx and Kings County, and New Jersey missing persons volunteer groups.
“We have officers retracing any possible routes and working to obtain video footage from various locations,” South Orange police stated.
