New Millburn Bridal Store Opens in Location of Bankrupt Calvary Bridal House

New shop opens in location of Calvary Bridal House; South Orange wedding planner is involved

Last fall, the corner of Lackawanna Place and Essex Street in Millburn was the site of a protest by brides upset over their treatment by Calvary Bridal House.

The brides said their dresses were never ordered although they paid full price for them, and within days after the protest the shop moved from Millburn.

Now, a new bridal shop has opened at the same location, and the owner wants to make sure people know they're not Calvary.

"We have nothing to do with Calvary Bridal House," said Remy Quinones, Exquisite Bride owner. "I want to make it clear because I am aware of what happened here with the brides."

She's sure she can win the confidence of brides from the surrounding area, she said.

"I want them to come to our store and be served properly and see that it is not the same experience," she said. "Our ability for good customer service will set us apart."

Quinones said she has a good reputation with an established shop in Princeton, which is thriving, and loves Millburn and the surrounding area.

She was in negotiations before Calvary went bankrupt and left the Millburn location in case the store was vacated, she said.

"Once she was out, everything fell into place quickly," she said. "In December we signed the lease. We didn't need to make any renovations except to paint and make some minor changes."

Half of the stock is already in place, and the doors are already open for customers although the grand opening celebration isn't until March 4.

There's a "store within a store" for Vera Wang gowns and a number of dresses from designers such as Romana Keveza and Ulla-Maija.

Quinones is already planning for the future, and she said she is looking to bring in shoes and mothers-of-the-bride dresses. She already has bridesmaid dresses, lingerie and a wedding planner on site.

"I want brides to come in and be served on a whole different level," she said. "I want them to get what they need in one place."

Eileen Kaden Dean, a wedding planner from South Orange, has set up shop in the facility and was associated with the Vera Wang shop once owned by Calvary.

"It's sad what happened," she said. "I'm happy to have another space. It's a great business and there are a lot of brides in the area. It's the right place and the right business."

Dean, who is a seasoned event planner, said her services are a "little extra something." She can recommend different vendors to brides, including florists and photographers.

"I wanted to be a part of this," she said. "It's helpful to me and to Remy (Quinones)."
