New Places to Chow Down in the Valley District

Three restaurants celebrated grand openings

Hungry?

Better get that appetite going, as three new restaurants arrived in the Valley District — Mazzi Dogs, Planet Wings and Suzi-Que's BBQ.

The new grub hubs each have their own allure. A hot dog topping haven at Mazzi Dogs, finger liking flavorful wings at Planet Wings or a Southern pride family friendly Suzi-Que's BBQ.

West Orange Mayor Robert Parisi, along with members of the township council and the Human Relations Commission hosted three individual ribbon cutting ceremonies Wednesday.

Vinny Mazzarisi, owner of Mazzi Dogs, 555 Valley Road in West Orange,  said guests can expect "funky combos" at his restaurant, including, Holy Guacamole — a hot dog covered in chili, guacamole, and crushed Dorito chips. "We pride ourselves in having the best hot dogs," said Mazzarisi.

Michael Kizis said locals can come to taste one of 24 different flavored chicken wings at Planet Wings, located in the CVS plaza on Valley Raod.  "It's fresh, natural and hand-made," he said. What's Kizis' favorite? The Leapin' Lizard, a sweet and spicy sauce that's bound to make you come back for more.

Over at Suzi-Que's BBQ, also on Valley Road in the former location of Quincy's, owner Susan Hoffberg said their beef has been cooking for 13 hours in a Southern pride smoker, a specialize gadget not many restaurants have. "We wanted to open a place that was different," said Hoffberg. "Here it's where neighbors becomes friends and friends become family."
