New Ticket Machines Installed at Train Station

Two audio-enabled ticket vending machines were installed at South Orange Station on Friday.

Last weekend, you might have waited on line at the New Jersey Transit ticket office at South Orange Station. But this past weekend, there was almost no line, thanks to two new ticket vending machines (TVMs) installed on Friday.

Like those previously installed at Maplewood Station, the TVMs are audio-enabled and operate with a touch-screen. Since there are now three places to purchase tickets, including the ticket office, lines for tickets should be shorter.

On a Web chat earlier this year, William B. Duggan, Vice President/General Manager of Rail Operations for NJ Transit, indicated that the TVMs would be installed by mid-summer. During the Web chat, Duggan noted that NJ Transit representatives had met with historic preservation and South Orange officials to decide where to put the TVMs. They are now conveniently located next to the ticket office.
