Are you a cigarette smoker in New Jersey? Your habit may cost you almost $2 million over your lifetime, according to a recent study.
WalletHub, a financial information provider, released a report that suggested cigarettes drain about $1.95 million from the average Garden State resident’s pockets during their lifetime.
To reach their conclusion, researchers calculated that each smoker consumes one pack of cigarettes per day beginning at age 18, leaving them with 51 years of smoking during their average life expectancy.

The report didn’t stop with the cost of the cigarettes themselves, also factoring in costs allegedly associated with smoking such as health-care expenditures, “income losses” and insurance premiums.
New Jersey ranked as the 43rd most-expensive state for a smoker to cultivate a habit, according to the WalletHub study.
