PHOTOS: Rescue Squad Takes Part in Readiness Drill

The drill was conducted by the New Jersey EMS Task Force and Essex County Office of Emergency Management at Newark Penn Station on Sunday.

On Sunday, the South Orange Rescue Squad participated in a readiness drill conducted at Newark Penn Station by the New Jersey EMS Task Force and the Essex County Office of Emergency Management.

Responding to a scenario based on an explosion in a rail car located in the station, Newark and NJ Transit police and fire agencies participated, as well as University Hospital EMS and commercial and volunteer EMS units from around Essex County. The drill involved evacuation and treatment of more than 30 injured victims represented by volunteers and mannequins.

South Orange Rescue Squad members evacuated the injured from the train platform, simulated treatment and transported them to a casualty assembly area.

The drill gave the Rescue Squad an opportunity to practice the EMS procedures they would implement in South Orange if a major rail accident should occur in a large setting. SORS members Don Boyle, Brian Taege and Keenan Rogers attended the drill.
