  • A Hillside Place resident called police at about 2 a.m. to report banging coming from the rear of his neighbor's house. He looked out the window and saw two black males trying to gain entry to the house through a rear window on the deck. One of them was described as wearing a sleeveless fitted white T-shirt and carrying a No. 9 flashlight, but they reportedly fled from Hillside Place toward Meadowbrook Lane without gaining entry to the premises.

Tuesday, June 30:

  • An officer responded to an activated alarm at the Baird shortly after 6:30 a.m. and observed an open window on the north side of the building on the second-story porch. The officer also saw large wet footprints leading up to the window, which had its screen pulled off. Backup arrived, and the officers conducted an interior search and found nothing disturbed. Upon exiting the building, they were approached by a West Orange resident who said he had seen two juvenile black males walk up on the porch, enter the building, climb back out when the alarm went off, and then run south toward the rear of the building. The only other description he could provide was that one boy wore a red T-shirt and the other wore a white T-shirt. The juveniles weren't found in a search of the premises, but an officer recovered a juice maker/food processor from the Baird's parking lot, which was placed into evidence.
