Police Blotter: Attempted Auto Theft on Sinclair Terr.

An attempted break-in at a Meeker Street home over Thanksgiving weekend was also reported.

Tuesday, Dec. 1:

  • There was an attempted break-in at a home on Meeker Street between the dates of Nov. 25 and 29, though the crime was only reported on Tuesday, Dec. 1. Perpetrators cut a screen and opened a window on the south side of the house but failed to gain entry.
  • A Holland Road resident reported returning home in the afternoon to find damage to the door jamb on the north-facing exterior wall of the house. The door was still closed and the locks were intact, but he had trouble opening the door. When he did, multiple pieces fell from the door jamb. Nothing inside the house was disturbed, and he didn't believe access had been gained.
  • A 2003 Subaru Forester parked in a North Wyoming Avenue driveway was burglarized; $3 in change was taken.

Friday, Dec. 4:

  • Perpetrators tried to break into a 2005 Acura TL parked on Hillside Place and damaged the driver's side door lock. They failed to gain entry.

  • A gray 2008 Cadillac Escalade was stolen from a North Wyoming Avenue driveway. It was recovered in East Orange later that day and turned over to South Orange police, who contacted the owner.
  • An unlocked 2008 Toyota Prius in a North Wyoming Avenue driveway was burglarized, but nothing was reported stolen.
  • An unlocked 2007 Toyota Avalon in a Highland Road driveway was burglarized, but nothing was reported stolen.
  • An unlocked 2007 Ford wagon parked in a Mayhew Drive driveway was burglarized, and a Toshiba laptop was reported stolen.

Monday, Dec. 7:

  • A 2009 Toyota Highlander in a Garfield Place driveway was burglarized on Monday evening, and a Gucci wallet containing credit cards and $250 in cash was reported stolen.

Tuesday, Dec. 8:

  • A man parked his 2005 Chrysler Sebring on Sinclair Terrace at about 8 p.m. Monday, and when he returned to it around midnight, he found there had been an attempt to steal it. The driver's side door lock was broken, the ignition cylinder had been removed, and there was a brick on the front seat. Nothing was reported stolen.
