Police Blotter: Attempted Burglary on Raymond Ct.

A 21-year-old West Orange man was taken into custody.

Friday, Jan. 1:

  • Officer Ernesto Morillo and James Nugent responded to an alarm activation on Raymond Court at about 1:25 a.m. and detained a man they saw walking down the driveway of the house. One of the officers did a search of the premises and observed a set of fingerprints at the base of the fence enclosing the yard, as well as footprints leading to a door next to the garage and then to a set of rear sliding doors, which also showed footprints from an apparent attempt to kick them in. There were also scratches on the glass from a brick lying at the base of the doors that had apparently been hurled at it. The man who'd been spotted out front -- Richard Rengifo, 21, of West Orange -- was then transported to police headquarters and charged with burglary, defiant trespass and possession of burglary tools.
