Police Blotter: Burglary Arrests, Stolen Cologne, Flag Burning

The following arrest information was supplied by the South Orange Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

  • A Park Place resident stated that sometime during the overnight hours of October 10, an unknown person(s) had entered his unlocked vehicle, a 2001 Mercedes, and removed a bottle of Gucci cologne.  No other items were removed and there was no damage to the vehicle.

  • A Fielding Court resident stated that sometime during the overnight hours of October 10, an unknown person(s) had entered his garage and entered his unlocked vehicle, a 2003 Honda.  The victim stated that he believes nothing was stolen during the incident.

  • A victim that works on the campus of Seton Hall University stated that at approximately 6:40 a.m. on October 11, she was robbed of her pocketbook while walking to work on Wilden Place. The victim stated that a black male, approximately 5'9" in height, in his early 20's, and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and dark pants approached her from behind after he had crossed the street.  The man knocked the victim to the ground and struggled with her to remove her pocketbook.  The man had struck the victim in her arm and hand with his fist in order to gain possession of her property.  The man then fled on foot east on Wilden place toward the area of Ivy Hill park.

  • A South Ridgewood Road resident stated that at approximately 1:30 p.m. on October 12, she discovered an unknown individual in her son's bedroom.  The victim stated that the person informed her that he was a friend of her son's.  When the person left the residence, the victim discovered a Sony Playstation had been stolen.  (see below)

  • Troy Jackson, a 49 year old homeless man, was arrested for trespassing on October 13 at approximately 9:50 a.m. after a Centre Street resident discovered that the man had been squatting in his carriage house.  Jackson, who is known to the police department from previous incidents, was placed under arrest after officers arrived on scene.  

  • A Montrose Avenue resident stated that sometime between 1:15 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. on October 14, an unknown person(s) had entered her home via the rear door.  The person(s) broke the glass on the door to gain entry and upon doing so entered the kitchen area and removed the victim's wallet from her purse which was resting on the kitchen table.

  • A Clark Sreet resident stated that sometime between 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on October 16, an unknown person(s) set fire to an American flag that she had mounted on a pole next to her front door.  The flag was completely burnt to the pole.

  • A Juvenile was arrested on October 18 at 7:30 p.m. after an investigation revealed that she had stolen a cell phone from a victim earlier in the day while inside the South Orange Public Library.

  • Victoria Barnes, a 42 year old Newark resident, was arrested on October 18 at approximately 11:39 a.m. after she was observed attempting to flee the Pathmark Supermarket with over $350.00 worth of unpaid merchandise.  During her attempt to flee, she fought with a store employee, causing some minor injuries.  Upon police arrival, the woman was placed under arrest and subsequently charged with the offense of robbery.

  • A Fairview Avenue resident stated that sometime between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. on October 18, an unknown person(s) had entered her residence via a rear cellar door and once inside, removed numerous articles of designer clothing.  The person(s) had also cut the screens to basement windows prior to gaining entry through the cellar door.  The Detective Bureau is continuing the investigation and at this time a subject arrested for a previous burglary by Detectives has been found to be in possession of some of the above victim's property.  (see below)

  • Tod Graham, an 18 year old South Orange resident, was arrested at approximately 10:53 a.m. on October 19 at his Irvington Avenue residence, after an investigation conducted by the Detective Bureau revealed that he was the person involved in the burglary to a South Ridgewood Road home on October 13.  Graham was arrested without incident and processed accordingly.  During Graham’s arrest, detectives found him to be in possession of items which were stolen from a residence that was burglarized on Fairview Avenue during the daytime hours of October 18.
