Police Blotter: Car Burglaries

Several car burglaries and attempted burglaries took place in the vicinity of Mercer Place on Thursday night.

Tuesday, May 11:

  • Someone tried to break into the C&L Towing yard on Lackawanna Place overnight using the point of a screwdriver, but they were unable to break the deadbolt lock.

Thursday, May 13:

  • A 2007 Cadillac DTS parked in a Ward Place driveway was broken into overnight via a damaged driver-side door lock, and a briefcase, laptop computer and cell phone were reported stolen.

  • A commuter who parks in the Mews lot on Third Street reported that someone had tried to rip the side molding off the doors of his 2008 Chrysler 300 while he was at work.
  • A 2004 Nissan Maxima parked in a Cameron Road driveway was broken into overnight via a popped-out driver-side door lock, and the owner's manual, registration and insurance cards were taken. Someone tried to break into a 2008 Audi Q7 in a Mercer Place driveway by prying out the driver-side door lock, but they were unsuccessful. An unlocked 2007 Toyota Camry in a Mercer Place driveway was ransacked, but nothing was reported missing. And a 2010 Chrysler 300 in a Varsity Road driveway was broken into via a damaged driver-side door lock, and an emergency roadside kit was stolen from the trunk.

Sunday, May 16:

  • Someone broke the driver-side door lock of a 2003 BMW 325 parked in a South Kingman Road driveway over the weekend, but entry wasn't gained.

  • The rear driver-side window of a 2002 Dodge Caravan parked in a Vose Avenue driveway was found to have been smashed overnight, but nothing was reported missing.
