Police Blotter: Man Wanted by Essex and Union County Sheriff's Offices Arrested

The week's police reports include a warrant arrest and an attempted car theft.

Wednesday, July 15:

  • The glass of the front door of Ninth Wonder Youth and Apparel was smashed, but police inspecting the interior of the premises on Wednesday morning found that nothing inside appeared to be disturbed.
  • The owner of a silver 2001 Audi wagon parked at N. Ridgewood Road and Mead Street reported that someone had tried to steal the car by damaging the driver's side door lock and ignition sometime between 7:45 and 9:45 p.m.

Sunday, July 19:

  • An officer detained a man later identified as Tyrik Austin, 31, of Orange, for not wearing a helmet while riding his bicycle north on Scotland Road. After doing a records search, the officer determined that Austin had an outstanding warrant for $150 out of South Orange and was also wanted by the Union County Sheriff's Office for receiving stolen property under the alias of Roosevelt Morris and by the Essex County Sheriff's Office for drug possession under the alias Muashon Sharif. He was arrested, transported to headquarters and issued a summons for failing to wear a bike helmet. He posted $150 in South Orange bail and was picked up by the Essex County Sheriff's Office later that evening.
  • The rear plastic window of a red 1994 BMW convertible was slashed while the car was parked in a South Orange Avenue lot, but nothing was reported missing.
  • A specialized Hotrock boy's bicycle left by the front stairs of a Village Road home was stolen sometime between Thursday, July 16, and Sunday, July 19.
