Police Blotter: Office Acevedo Helps Deliver Baby
En route to St. Barnabas last Wednesday, Officer Adrian Acevedo and ambulance crew member Rodney Rodriguez delivered a baby.

Wednesday, Oct. 28:
- At about 5:30 p.m., Officer Adrian Acevedo and an Atlantic Ambulance crew responded to a doctor's office on Valley Street, where a 38-year-old woman was going into labor. Acevedo came on board the ambulance, which was en route to St. Barnabas, to assist the two crew members, and the woman gave birth during the trip. The baby was delivered by Acevedo and crew member Rodney Rodriguez.
- A Mountain House Road home was burglarized between the hours of 4:15 and 5:20 p.m., and access appeared to have been gained through an opened first-floor kitchen window. A silver iBook laptop was reported stolen from a second-floor office, and a jewelry box was taken from the master bedroom. Other jewelry boxes and several dresser drawers were also rummaged through.
- Six plants in clay pots were stolen from the front steps of a Riggs Place home overnight.
Friday, Oct. 30:
- A SOPAC manager reported that someone had made a ball out of paper and dental floss and flushed it down a toilet between about 7:30 and 10 p.m., creating a blockage that caused the sewer to back up and resulted in an estimated $15,000 in damages.
- A stolen 2006 Acura TL was recovered from Essex Street in Maplewood after a Seton Hall student reported it stolen from an Irvington Avenue driveway. South Orange police entered the car into the NCIC system, and LoJack was activated, allowing for the car to be traced to its Essex Street location. It was turned over to the owner on the scene.
- The front door of a Glenview Road residence was egged at about 8 p.m.
- A Ralston Avenue resident reported that someone had smashed in his side garage door, gained access to his car and stole a power cord and mounting piece for a GPS system. The perpetrator also reportedly disabled his outside sensor light system.
- A 2004 Acura MDX was burglarized at a Self Place home at about 4 a.m., but nothing was reported missing. The owner reported hearing his garage door open via the remote inside of the car, but he noticed nothing missing from there either.
- A 2001 Volvo V70 parked in a Turrell Avenue driveway was burglarized overnight, and a GPS unit was taken.

- A pile of leaves in front of South Orange Country Day School became engulfed in flames through unknown means shortly before 3 a.m. South Orange firefighters extinguished the blaze.
- A 2000 Lincoln Navigator parked in a Warwick Avenue driveway was burglarized overnight, and a GPS unit, its power cord and mounting system were taken.
- A 2007 Volkswagen Eos was burglarized in a Hartford Road driveway overnight, and a Canon digital camera, three zoom lenses, camera tripod, Canon black backpack and an iPod were reported stolen.
Monday, Nov. 2:
- Two South Orange police officers responded to a Berkeley Avenue address in Orange on a report of a burglary in process shortly before 1:30 p.m. Upon arriving at the scene, Orange police already had the suspect in custody, but the South Orange officers were informed by a detective in their department that the perpetrator, Ernest Corbett, 20, of Orange, was also wanted for a burglary in South Orange. Orange officers transported him to South Orange headquarters to be processed.
