Police Blotter: Sat. Fire on Harding Drive Caused by Downed Power Lines
Maplewood firefighters assisted South Orange to put out a brush fire in Newstead on a windy Saturday night.
Saturday, May 1:
- A 2008 GMC Yukon parked in an Irving Avenue driveway was broken into overnight, and various forms of identification and credit cards were stolen from the glove compartment.
Monday, May 3:
- At around 2 a.m., police responded to a report of flames shooting from the top of a PSE&G gas vent pole near the intersection of Vose Ave. and Stewart Place. South Orange firefighters and PSE&G responded to put out the blaze.
- Someone rummaged through a 1998 Saab 9-3 parked in a Montrose Avenue driveway overnight, but nothing was reported missing.
- A Waverly Place resident reported that someone broke pieces of her vinyl fence between Saturday and Monday, causing $750 worth of damages.

- Someone threw a rock through a porch window on Blanchard Road between Friday and Tuesday, but entry to the premises wasn't gained.
Friday, May 7:
- Someone threw a rock threw a first-floor front window of a South Stanley Road home between 8:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.

- Shortly after 11:30 p.m., police responded to a brush fire caused by downed power lines on Harding Drive. South Orange and Maplewood firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, and PSE&G was on-hand to shut off power to the area and restore it once the scene was cleared.
