Police Blotter: Theft and Entry

A look at some of the week's police activity

On Oct. 5,  Charleton Ave. resident heard his house alarm going off and discovered that that his dinning-room window had been opened. Nothing was missing.

On the same date, a  South Orange Ave. resident reported that someone entered her apartment via a window located off of the fire escape.  A camera, a laptop and the victim's wallet were missing.


On Oct. 4, A Cottage St. resident reported that someone entered her first-floor apartment via a bathroom window. Items were moved, but nothing was stolen.

On Oct. 2, James Calloway, 20, of Maplewood, Preston Williams, 21, from East Orange, and Kelon Richmond, 20, from East Orange were arrested for possession of marijuana. The three were arrested at Grove Park.

Timothy Downey, 47 , of Irvington was arrested on Oct 2 after police were called to a Fairview Ave. residence on a report of an intruder. Downey had entered the home via a rear window and was found in the basement, still in possession of belonging stolen from another local home.

On the same date, an individual while walking on Irvington Ave. in the area of West Fairview Ave. Witnesses stated that an actor exited an older model vehicle, believed to be a dark-colored Honda, and  assaulted the victim with a bat. The victim suffered injuries to his head and as a result was transported to University Hospital .

A Harding Dr. resident stated that sometime between Oct. 1 and Oct. 3, someone disabled a window crank and entered his home. The person took numerous pieces of jewelry and exited via the same window. 

A South Orange Ave. resident stated that on Oct. 4 at approximately 9:00 pm a man reached in her window from the fire escape and removed a gold chain that was resting on the window's ledge.
