Police Blotter: Trespassing Arrests, Laundry Room Vandalism

The following arrest information was supplied by the South Orange Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

  • A Meeker Street resident said between 2:45 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. on Dec. 22, someone tried to enter his residence by damaging the front door lock. The victim said the person was unable to enter because of a security deadbolt on the door.

  • A West End Road resident stated that sometime during the overnight hours of Dec. 22, someone entered his unlocked vehicle (2008 Mazda) and ransacked his glove box removing a yellow bag with keys.

  • Shaquan Jones, an 18 year old Irvington resident, Rashon Spruill, a 20 year old Irvington resident and a 16 year old juvenile, also from Irvington, , after a resident from Kenneth Terrace notified the SOPD that he observed the actors in the rear of his yard.  Officers arrived to the scene and placed Spruill and Jones under arrest for trespassing without incident.  However, the juvenile fled on foot for several blocks and through numerous yards before being apprehended by officers from South Orange and Maplewood Police Departments in the area of Edgewood Terrace in Maplewood.  As a result, the juvenile was subsequently charged with resisting arrest and obstruction of justice.
  • Rodney Cauthen, a 48 year old Orange resident, was arrested on Dec. 24, at approximately 4:05 a.m., by a West Orange Police Officer after he observed Cauthen acting suspiciously on Luddington Road adjacent to the South Orange border.  When questioned, it was discovered that he had two GPS units in his possession along with an iPod.  South Orange Officers responding to the scene to assist were able to determine that the items in Cauthen’s possession were stolen from a vehicle on Stonehill Road and Harding Drive.  As a result, Cauthen was subsequently charged accordingly for receiving stolen property.
  • A Fielding Court resident stated that sometime during the overnight hours of Dec. 24, someone entered her vehicle (2002 Nissan) and removed the insurance card after ransacking the glove box.  There were no signs of a forced entry.

  • A Harding Drive resident stated that sometime during the overnight hours of Dec. 25 someone broke into the victim's vehicle (2010 Audi) by smashing the driver's side rear window.  Once inside the vehicle, the person removed a camera bag containing a Nikon camera and two lenses valued at $1,200.  The bag was in the back seat of the vehicle at the time of the incident.

  • The apartment manager at 174 South Orange Avenue stated that sometime between 9 p.m. on Dec. 25 and 8 a.m. on Dec. 26, someone entered the locked laundry room and damaged the coin box of a washing machine. 
  • A Glenview Road resident stated that sometime after midnight on Dec. 26, someone removed his vehicle (2002 Audi S4) from the driveway of his home.  The victim stated that the vehicle is equipped with Lo-jack.
