Police Conduct Traffic Stops by South Orange Middle School

South Orange police conduct morning and afternoon traffic stops by SOMS in response to accidents involving student pedestrians last month.

South Orange police set up a traffic stop on North Ridgewood Road next to South Orange Middle School on Wednesday from 7 to 11 a.m. and from 1 to 5 p.m.

During the morning shift, 80 cars were stopped and 69 summonses given out, encompassing everything from equipment violations to suspended licenses, according to Sgt. Michael Corrigan of the Traffic Bureau.

The stop was a department response to two incidents last month in which students walking to school were hit by cars. A traffic stop will be set up next week by Marshall School, according to Sgt. Corrigan.
