Police: Former Student Attacks Cop at CHS
A South Orange resident and former CHS student allegedly assaulted a Maplewood police officer.

A 19-year-old former Columbia High School student was taken into police custody on Friday after allegedly assaulting a police officer.
According to police reports, South Orange resident Brian Patierno visited Columbia while class was in session, reportedly demanding to speak with a former teacher. Police say he angrily shouted obscenities in the hall, which drew the attention of a high school security guard, who called the police.
The arrival of the police reportedly only fueled Patierno’s anger. The teen yelled at the officer, who according to police tried to escort Patierno off campus. Police say Patierno “swung his arms and attempted to punch the uniformed officer.” The officer reportedly sustained a dislocated shoulder from the incident.
Patierno was charged with Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, taken into custody and subsequently released on a $15,000 bond.
