UPDATED: Police Charge Suspect with Additional Burglaries, Car Theft
Linked to crimes in South Orange, West Orange's Gregory, Valley sections, car theft
West Orange police on Thursday announced the arrest of a 19-year-old Orange man and charged him with a series of burglaries in the township and neighboring South Orange.
West Orange police arrested Dawshawn Porter Wednesday and South Orange police charged him with three burglaries in town. The burglaries occurred on Scotland Rd. in October of 2009, Redmond Rd. on Nov. 27, 2010, and on Warwick Ave. on Dec. 6, 2010.
UPDATED: On Feb. 16, Porter was also charged with a Raymond Ave. home burglary and car theft. Forensic evidence left at the scene led to the arrest.

In addition, West Orange police charged Porter in three overnight home burglaries in the township’s Gregory and Valley sections.
Porter was taken into custody by West Orange police without incident, according to West Orange Public Information Officer Jessica Glicker.

Glicker said following an investigation, property from recent burglaries was recovered. However, what those recovered items were and how Porter was taken into custody were not released because the investigation was continuing.
Porter is in Essex County jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
