  • On May 8, a backpack belonging to a visitor was stolen from a Second Street residence. It contained a laptop imprinted with the Seton Hall logo, clothing, $40 in cash, and credit cards—one of which was used in several locations subsequent to the robbery, including Jaison's Liquors, 764 Chancellor Ave., Irvington. The Detective Bureau was able to obtain a copy of the surveillance video and learned from the owner of the store that the man who used the card was a Puerto Rican man in his 40s who lived in the neighborhood. Detectives showed a photo of the man to several area residents, who identified him as "Chick" and directed them to a home on Paine Avenue. The woman who answered the door identified the man as her husband, Juan Conceda, and said he was upstairs. Detectives arrested Conceda after positively identifying him and brought him to headquarters, where he admitted to using the stolen Visa card. He was charged with burglary, theft, forged writing and use of a stolen credit card. The lead detective in the case was Det. Michael Bradley.
  • Richmond Avenue residents reported that when they were away from home between Friday and Sunday, someone took two packages that had been delivered on their front stoop and forced their way into the back porch, where they opened one of the packages and stole a nightlight valued at $28.
  • Officers responded at about 2:30 p.m. to reports of a man soliciting door-to-door on Mayhew Drive. After approaching him, they noticed that his eyes were watery and bloodshot and asked if he had been drinking. He responded, "No, but I was smoking and blunt" and produced a brown paper-wrapped blunt that later tested positive for marijuana. The man—identified as James Robinson of Newark—was placed under arrest and taken to headquarters.
