Police Reports: Two Stolen Auto Reports

Two cars are stolen, but both are retrieved.

Monday, April 13:

  • An owner's manual containing the vehicle's registration and insurance cards was stolen from a silver 2002 Jaguar parked in Municipal Lot 7. The driver's side door and lock were damaged.

Thursday, April 16:

  • A white 2000 Ford van parked in front of 212 South Orange Ave. was stolen between 1 and 2 p.m. At 3:30 p.m., Det. Lt. Aiosa and Det. Bradley, driving an unmarked unit, observed the vehicle—occupied by two black males—traveling eastward on Tremont Avenue in East Orange. The stolen van pursued a course onto Smith Street in Newark, and the officers notified the local police departments as well as headquarters, and Officer DiEsso and Chief Chelel ultimately joined in the pursuit in unmarked units. The driver of the stolen car—later identified as Omar Muhammad, 41, of East Orange—parked in front of 236 Stuyvesant Ave. and was placed under arrest. The passenger, Reese Jones, 39, of South Orange, took off on foot but was pursued and placed under arrest, though he became combative and refused to place his hands behind his back. The two were taken back to headquarters and charged with theft; Jones was also charged with resisting arrest. The van was released to its owner.
