Police Search for Suspected Hillside Car Burglars

South Orange police were searching for suspects in a string of car burglaries on Hillside Place at around 2 a.m. on Monday, but the juveniles apparently moved through backyards on the South Orange/West Orange border and got away.

According to Police Chief James Chelel, police responded to reports of burglaries of unlocked cars and were told that a group of five juveniles dressed all in black had been seen in the Hillside neighborhood. The local police were joined in their search for the suspects by units from West Orange and Orange.

About 90 percent of car burglaries are to unlocked vehicles, Chelel said.
