Residents Encouraged To Apply To South Orange Home Improvement Program

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — The Village of South Orange is offering financial assistance through its Home Improvement Program (HIP) to help eligible low- and moderate-income households address health, safety and code-related deficiencies in their homes.

Both owner-occupied and renter-occupied units may qualify, provided the property is the occupant’s primary residence, the household meets income requirements and the unit is determined to be substandard. Eligible rental properties may also receive funding when income-qualified tenants occupy the units, and rents must remain affordable to low- and moderate-income households.

Funding is available at the following levels:

• Up to $20,000 for an eligible owner-occupied single-family home.
• Up to $10,000 per unit for eligible owner-occupied multifamily properties and investor-owned rental units.

There is no cost to apply, and applying does not affect an applicant’s credit score.
