Seton Hall Invites Community To A Free Screening of After The Fire

The documentary tells the inspiring story of two roommates who were burned in the Boland Hall fire on Jan. 19, 2000.

is inviting residents to their campus on Monday, Feb. 13, at 2:30 p.m., in Jubilee Hall Auditorium for a chance to view a free screening of the documentary After The Fire.  After The Fire, directed by Emmy Award winner Guido Verweyen, is about the fire that burned in the early morning of Jan. 19, 2000 in Seton Hall’s Boland Hall, killing three students and injuring dozens more. 

The documentary of Alvaro Llanos and Shawn Simon, roommates who were each badly burned that morning.  The New York Times described the documentary as one of the most compelling documentaries in recent years.

Following the documentary will be a panel discussion with Llanos, Simon, Verweyen, journalist/author Robin Gaby Fischer, and representatives from Seton Hall University and the Burn Center at Saint Barnabas.

Village officials will be on hand to express their solidarity with the University and these courageous young people, Al and Shawn, whose inspiring friendship and inner strength remind us all of the triumph that can come, even from the depths of tragedy. The program expresses a unity of purpose and caring and a commitment to ensure that the history and impact of this period is never forgotten.

Among the Village officials scheduled to appear will be South Orange Village President Alex Torpey, former Village President William Calabrese, South Orange Fire Chief Jeffrey Markey, as well as E. Hani Mansour, M.D., medical director of the New Jersey Burn Center at Saint Barnabas Medical Center.
