SHU Fire Contained to Microwave
McQuaid Hall was evacuated, but emergency responders are clearing the scene.

Despite a flurry of news helicopters that hovered over Seton Hall on Monday afternoon, the fire that broke out at McQuaid Hall -- an administrative building -- at around 4:30 p.m. was contained to the microwave it started in, according to Holly Wojcik, a spokeswoman for the university.
The building was evacuated, and as of about 5:30 p.m., emergency responders were clearing the scene, Wojcik said. Students haven't yet returned to campus for the start of the spring semester.
The South Orange Fire Department was alerted by campus security of the second-floor fire and observed a heavy smoke condition upon arriving at the scene, according to Chief Jeffrey Markey. However, the fire was contained to the appliance. His firefighters were backed up by a Maplewood engine.
