S.O. Man Arrested on Burglary Charges in Maplewood
The suspect reportedly tried to enter two occupied homes.
Last week, a South Orange man was arrested by Maplewood police after allegedly attempting to break into a string of houses.
On Wednesday, Aug. 12, a Tuscan Road resident called police concerning reports about a man acting suspiciously. After ringing the home’s doorbell, the suspect— later identified as Lonnie Askew, 37, of South Orange—reportedly attempted to open the home’s back door. An occupant of the home called police and gave them a description of the man and information on where he seemed to be heading.
Askew reportedly attempted to gain entry into a Rutgers Street home shortly after the Tuscan Road resident called police. An occupant of the second home called police, saying a man was trying to open the back door of her house.
Askew fit the description given by both callers. He was arrested on charges including burglary and attempted burglary.
