S.O. Police Arrest Suspects in Newark Armed Robberies

Three suspects were arrested on Wilden Place and turned over to Newark police.

Members of a group that allegedly committed two armed robberies at the Ivy Hill Apartment complex in Newark were placed under arrest by South Orange police on Wednesday evening.

In the first incident, a woman waiting for a bus on Mount Vernon Place, which becomes Wilden Place in South Orange, by the housing complex was robbed at gunpoint at about 7:20 p.m. An off-duty Seton Hall public safety officer came to her aid, according to an e-mail sent to the university community, and South Orange police were notified. Meanwhile, a Seton Hall student reported that he was robbed by a group while entering a building at the rear of the Ivy Hill complex.

Responding South Orange police officers spotted four suspects walking west on Wilden Place. Three were identified by both victims as the subjects who had robbed them. Newark police responded to the scene and took custody of the suspects.

The South Orange Fire Department assisted at the scene of the robberies by lighting up the area, and proceeds belonging to one of the victims were found in Ivy Hill Park, according to the South Orange police blotter. The identity of the arrestees had not been made known to local police as of the morning of the following day.
