Four Maplewood teens were also charged in connection with the Dec. 21 incident.
On Dec. 21, 2009, the Maplewood Police Department responded to a report of a burglary at Seth Boyden School. During the previous weekend, unknown persons entered the school by removing a screen and climbing through an unlocked window on the first floor. It appeared that the school's computers were used to access the Internet, and several items from two classrooms were removed, including two Palm Pilot PDAs. In addition, several food items were taken from classrooms and consumed on scene.
An investigation conducted by Detective Gnida of the Youth Aid Bureau revealed that the burglary was committed by six local youths. The youths involved were two 15-year-old males from South Orange, two 15-year-old males from Maplewood, and two females, ages 16 and 15, from Maplewood. All youths were subsequently charged with burglary and theft and released to their parents. The two Palm Pilot PDAs were recovered and returned to the school.
