SOMS Entrepreneurs Host Mini Mall

Seventh grade entrepreneurs raise $250.

"Calling all! Calling all! Come to our Mini Mall!" was the announcement SOMS students heard constantly over the past few days. The "Mini Mall," which took place after school on Wednesday, was hosted by Club Entrepreneur, a group of SOMS seventh graders. The Mini Mall featured jewelry, crackers, cookies, lollipops, pizza, fried chicken and brownies for sale.

Seventh grade social studies teacher John Gregory is the CEO of Club Entrepreneur. Gregory says the club was founded 11 years ago, and the Mini Mall is 10 years old. "I love that I can inspire young people to learn about entrepreneurship," he said.

Over $250 was collected from the event, and the 27 club members acted as merchants. In fact, at least one club member collected as much as $60. According to Gregory, most of the money goes to club members, just like money goes to real entrepreneurs. However, a portion of the money goes to area charities and foundations.
