SOPD Crime Alert: Burglaries to Unlocked Cars
Crimes appear to be taking place between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. in residential driveways.

The South Orange Police Department would like to advise residents of a recent rash of thefts from unlocked parked vehicles which have been occurring in South Orange as well as in neighboring towns.
These thefts have been occurring roughly between the hours of 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. The suspects are entering unlocked cars parked in the driveways of residences and removing valuables from the interiors of same. It appears the suspects are looking for GPS units along with other items that can be carried off.
In some instances, witnesses have observed suspicious activity but did not come forward until hours later. If you notice suspicious activity at any time, you should immediately contact the South Orange Police Department at 973-763-3000, ext. 0, or for emergencies, such as a crime in progress, 911.

The South Orange Police Department would like to remind all residents of the fact that your vehicles and valuables should be secured at all times.
