Rescue Squad Participates in Disaster Drill at Newark Airport

South Orange Rescue Squad participates in simulated drills to learn the procedure for a crash.

The South Orange Rescue Squad (SORS) participated in a major disaster drill at Newark Airport earlier this month.  In an exercise that simulated the crash of an occupied jetliner into an airport hanger during landing, firefighters from Newark, Elizabeth, and Newark Airport evacuated "victims" from the airliner and the hanger and handed them over to teams of EMTs, who treated and transported more than one hundred fifty people to a simulated field hospital on the airport property.

Approximztely one hundred ambulance crews participated.  Representing the South Orange Rescue Squad were Julio Rivera, Dan Cohen, and Don Boyle.

This was the latest in a series of recent disaster drills that SORS has participated in.  Recently, drills have been performed at Seton Hall University, Newark Penn Station, and previously at Newark Airport.
