South Orange Introduces Valley Street Redevelopment Plan Ordinance

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — The South Orange Village Council has introduced an ordinance to adopt the Valley Street Redevelopment Plan, marking a key milestone in the Village's long-term planning efforts for the Valley Street corridor.

Introduced on July 27, the ordinance will now be referred to the Planning Board for review and recommendations before returning to the Village Council for consideration of final adoption in September.

Village officials emphasized that the redevelopment plan is not a proposal for a specific development project. Instead, it serves as a planning and zoning framework that establishes design standards, permitted land uses, development regulations, and streetscape improvements to guide future redevelopment in alignment with the Village Master Plan. Any individual redevelopment proposal would still require separate public review and approvals before construction could begin.

To help residents better understand the proposed plan, the Village will host a public Town Hall and Q&A session within the next two weeks. The meeting date, time, and location will be announced soon.

Questions will also be accepted during the Town Hall, but advance submissions will help ensure they can be addressed during the presentation and Q&A session.
