South Orange Police Blotter: Resident Robbed at Gunpoint

The following arrest information was supplied by the South Orange police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

  • A Church St. resident said that on March 1, at approximately 11:05 a.m., someone entered her apartment by prying open her front door.  The victim said she was on the second floor of her residence and heard footsteps on the first floor.  The victim believed the footsteps were that of her dog walker but later discovered that her residence had been burglarized.  The burglar went through several drawers on the first floor removing numerous articles including silver coins.  A resident in the area observed a suspicious individual walking back and forth near the victim's front door a short time before the incident.  The suspicious individual is described as a black male, approximately 5"8" in height and was observed wearing blue jeans, a green coat and a black hat.  

  • An Academy St. resident said that sometime during the overnight hours of March 3, someone entered his unlocked 2002 Mercedes and ransacked the interior.  No items were reported stolen.

  • A Prospect St. resident said that sometime during the late evening of March 3, someone entered his 2001 Honda and removed some loose change.  There were no signs of a forced entry.

  • A business owner on Irvington Ave. said that on March 5, at approximately 5:50 a.m., he was robbed at gunpoint as he exited his vehicle in the parking lot behind his establishment. The victim stated that the robber was a slim black male wearing all black and carrying a black hand gun.  He approached the victim as he exited his vehicle and demanded his property.  The robber then frisked the victim and began searching the victim's vehicle for anything of value.  The victim was able to escape and flee the scene on foot and contacted the police.

  • A Glenview Rd. resident stated that on March 6, at approximately 11:15 a.m., she heard her front door bell ring and then immediately heard a noise coming from the rear of her home.  When the resident went to investigate the noise, she discovered a black male, approximately 6'0" in height, in his mid 30's, with a medium build and wearing a grey hooded sweat shirt and grey sweat pants attempting to force open a window.  When the man saw the resident, he fled the area on foot through the backyard.

  • A juvenile that attends South Orange Middle School said that he was assaulted by three classmates while in school on March 6.  The matter is being investigated at this time by school administrators and the South Orange Police Department's Juvenile Bureau.
