South Orange Police Blotter: Tau Vandalized, Burglary Arrest
The following arrest information was provide by the South Orange Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.
- Tau, the sculpture located at the duck pond and belonging to the Village, was damaged sometime prior to 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 28. Someone painted the sides of the sculpture and carved a large triangle into same. The matter is under investigation.
- A Crestwood Drive resident stated that during the morning of Jan. 30, she heard a truck outside her residence and when she went outside, she discovered the retaining wall at the end of her driveway had been damaged. There was no description of the truck available at the time of the incident.
- A 16 year old Newark resident was arrested on Jan. 31, at 5:20 p.m., after attempting to break into a truck parked on Hartford Court. The owner of the vehicle saw the juvenile trying to enter the truck and called the cops. When police arrived, the juvenile fled the scene on foot and lead officers on a pursuit for several blocks. The teen was caught and arrested on Palm Street in Newark. At the time of his arrest, the teen was also found to be in possession of a weapon (knife).
- Julia Rondinella, a 20 year old South Orange resident, was arrested on Feb. 1, at approximately 7:45 p.m., after a plainclothes officer assigned to work a statewide underage alcohol detection operation observed Rondinella leave a liquor store located on Valley Street in possession of alcohol. Rondinella was stopped a short distance away, placed into custody and processed accordingly.
- Torre Garrett, a 35 year old Newark resident, was arrested on Feb. 1, at approximately 3:50 p.m., after an officer working in plainclothes saw Garrett approach a female juvenile on the corner of South Orange Avenue and Stanley Road and attempt to engage her in conversation. The officer observing the situation investigated further and during his field inquiry he discovered that the subject had an outstanding warrant issued for his arrest out of Atlantic City. The subject was placed under arrest without further incident and processed accordingly.
- Leon Holston, a 44 year old Roselle resident, was formally charged on Feb. 1 for committing two burglaries and thefts from apartment buildings located on Irvington Avenue in December 2011. Holston was charged for the offenses after an investigation conducted by the detective bureau revealed he was responsible, He is currently incarcerated at the Essex County Jail in Newark.
