South Orange Sees Rash of Garage Burglaries

Recent garage burglaries have taken place on Montrose, Hartford, Kingman, Irving, Charlton and Centre, South Orange police say.

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — South Orange police are investigating a series of garage burglaries and attempted burglaries that took place within blocks of each other last month, authorities say.

According to the South Orange Police Department, the following incidents took place in July:

Burglary to garage

A Montrose Avenue resident stated that sometime between 7 a.m. on July 28 and 7 p.m. the following day, an unknown actor(s) gained entry into his garage by removing a side window (glass) from its pane and climbing through. No items were removed in the incident, police said.

Attempted burglary to garage

A Hartford Road resident started that on July 29 at about 4 a.m., the alarm to his garage was activated. It appeared that some unknown actor(s) attempted to pry open the garage door to gain access however, entry was not gained, police said.

Burglary to garage

A Kingman Road resident stated that sometime between 4 p.m. on July 30 and 2:30 p.m. on July 31, an unknown actor(s) entered his unlocked garage and removed a Roubaix road bike and a Stihl gas trimmer.

Burglary to garage

An Irving Avenue resident stated that sometime between 6 a.m. on July 30 and 6 a.m. on July 31, an unknown actor(s) gained entry into his garage by breaking a side window and once inside removed a Toro electric edger.

A Charlton Avenue resident stated that sometime during the evening or overnight hours of July 21, an unknown actor(s) entered her unlocked garage and accompanying shed and removed a Marin 29-inch, hybrid mountain bike and a red echo backpack leaf blower.

Burglary to garage

A Centre Street resident stated that sometime between 5 p.m. on July 20 and 8:45 a.m. on July 21, an unknown actor(s) smashed in the rear window of his garage and entered, removing a red adult Schwinn mountain bike along with a battery for his lawnmower.
