In South Orange: Strong Arm Robbery Arrest / Stolen BMW / Trespassing / DWI

Police Blotter: Aug. 26 to Sept. 7

Editor’s Note: The following incidents are reprinted directly from the South Orange police blotter, a listing of selected incidents that may not include the full scope of activity in the area. All of the following incidents are accusations, and all suspects should be presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Theft From Vehicle - A Park Pl. resident stated that sometime during the evening or overnight hours of 9-2-15, an unknown actor(s) had entered her vehicle (2013 Ford), which was parked in her driveway and removed a flashlight, a tire pump and prescription sunglasses.

Trespass/Arrest - David Boone, an 18 year old Newark resident was arrested on 9-4-15 at approximately 10:40 p.m. after he was found to be trespassing at a residence located on Valley St. The subject was arrested without incident, transported to police headquarters and processed accordingly.

Disorderly/Arrest - Brian Paras, a 19 year old Jersey City resident was arrested on 9-4-15 at approximately 5 a.m. after an officer responded to the area of South Orange Ave. and Valley St. on a call of a subject running in the street purposely and repeatedly to obstruct vehicles. The subject was observed by the officer causing vehicles to swerve into on-coming traffic and as such the subject was taken into custody.

DWI/Arrest - Jose Aguilar, a 21 year old Chester, Pa., resident was arrested on 9-4-15 at approximately 1:30 a.m. after he was stopped while traveling through a DWI checkpoint that had been established on South Orange Ave. in the area of Warren Ct. During the subsequent checkpoint investigation it was determined that the subject had in fact been under the influence and as such was taken into custody, transported to police headquarters and processed accordingly.

Warrant Arrest - Shaquan Wilson, a 23 year old Elizabeth resident was arrested on 9-4-15 at approximately 12:13 a.m. after he was stopped for a motor vehicle infraction on South Orange Ave. and during the subsequent field investigation it was discovered that the subject had an outstanding warrant issued for his arrest out of the city of East Orange. The subject was arrested at the scene, transported to police headquarters and processed accordingly.

9/3/2015

Theft of Bicycle - An Orange resident stated that on 9-2-15 at approximately 8 a.m. he had locked up his bicycle (men’s blue Mongoose mountain bike) at the main train station and when he returned to it at 6 p.m. he discovered it had been stolen.

Theft of Vehicle - A Montclair resident stated that he had parked his vehicle (2007 BMW) on Second St. at approximately 3:30 p.m. on 9-2-15 and when he returned to it at 8 p.m. he discovered it had been stolen. The victim stated that the vehicle was unlocked and he believes he had left a spare key inside the vehicle.

9/2/2015

Burglary to School - An officer while on routine patrol on 9-1-15 at approximately 2:25 p.m. discovered that a window on the Marylawn school located on Scotland Rd. had been forced open. A further investigation with the site facility manager revealed that a lawn mower and a snow blower had been removed. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

Attempted Bicycle Theft/Arrest - Torre Garrett, a 38 year old Newark resident was arrested on 8-31-15 at approximately 1:35pm after officers responding to the area of First St./Valley St. located the subject fleeing the area on foot after attempting to steal a bicycle. The subject was arrested without incident, transported to police headquarters and processed accordingly.

8/31/2015

Theft from vehicle - A Clark St. resident stated that sometime during the evening or overnight hours of 8-29-15 an unknown actor(s) had entered her unlocked vehicle (2003 Honda) and removed her computer bag which contained her HP computer. The vehicle was parked in the driveway at the time of the incident.

Criminal Mischief - A Prospect St. resident stated that sometime between 11:15 a.m. and 3 p.m. on 8-30-15, an unknown actor(s) broke off both side mirrors from to her vehicle (2008 Infinity) which was parked in the street.

Counterfeit Bills - An employee which works for an establishment located on Village Pl. stated that on 8-29-15 at approximately 5:35 p.m., a male in his late teens passed a counterfeit $50 bill in her store and that a second male in his teens attempted to pass a counterfeit $20 bill. Both actors had left the scene prior to police arrival.

8/28/2015

CDS/Arrest - A 16 year old South Orange resident was arrested on 8-27-15 at approximately 10:55 a.m. when he was observed by a detective to be in possession of CDS (marijuana) while the he was sitting in a park located on West Third St. The juvenile was taken into custody at the scene without incident, transported to police headquarters and processed accordingly.

Criminal Mischief - A Centre St. resident stated that sometime during the overnight hours of 8-27-15, an unknown actor(s) had broken two lanterns that were situated on his driveway.

DWI/Arrest - Jethro Exantus, an 18 year old Maplewood resident was arrested on 8-26-15 at approximately 2:50 p.m. after officers responded to the area of Prospect St. on a report of a vehicle striking a tree. During the ensuing field investigation it was discovered that the subject had been operating his vehicle while under the influence. The subject was arrested at the scene without incident, transported to police headquarters and processed accordingly.

Theft from Vehicle - A Vose Ave. resident stated that sometime during the overnight hours of 8-26-15, an unknown actor(s) had entered her unlocked vehicle (2001 Jetta) which was parked in the driveway and removed approximately $10 in change.

8/26/2015

Juvenile/Arrest - A 16 year old juvenile and resident of Newark was arrested on 8-25-15 at approximately 4 p.m. after detectives determined that he was an additional actor involved in an early morning strong-arm robbery that occurred in South Orange on 8-10-15. The juvenile was observed by detectives walking on Brookdale Ave. in Newark and was subsequently placed into custody, transported to police headquarters and processed accordingly.

Theft from Vehicle - A Pennsylvania resident stated on 8-26-15 at approximately 12:45 a.m. that he had parked his vehicle (2001 Ford) on Montrose St. and when he returned to it at approximately 5:40 a.m., he discovered that an unknown actor(s) had broken into his vehicle and removed his car radio. The actor(s) had smashed the driver’s side car window to gain access.

Theft/Arrest - Selvin Hernandez-Lopez, a 23 year old Newark resident was arrested on 8-24-15 at approximately 4:40 p.m. after Detectives determined that the subject was in possession of a cell phone (iphone) that was stolen from a food establishment located on Sloan St. on 8-21-15. The subject attempted to extort funds from the owner of the cell phone in order to return same. Detectives investigating the incident arranged to meet with the subject in West Orange and upon doing so placed same under arrest after he was found to be in possession of the stolen phone.
