A "suspicious person" reportedly eluded South Orange police officers after being spotted near a West Montrose resident's home late at night.

South Orange, NJ – A “suspicious person” eluded South Orange police officers after being spotted near a West Montrose resident’s home late at night, authorities stated.
According to the South Orange Police Department, the West Montrose resident notified officers that she found an unknown male at her back door around 12:10 a.m. on Monday.
The resident said the alleged intruder was wearing a blue jacket with a stripe on it and white sneakers, police stated.

Officers responded to the scene and searched the area with negative results, police said.
The same man allegedly returned to the scene about an hour later, police stated.

At that time, responding officers gave chase and the man fled on foot, eventually giving police the slip, authorities said.
An investigation is ongoing, police said.
