South Orange police arrested a local 16-year-old after he allegedly assaulted another youth and stole his backpack, authorities say.

South Orange, NJ – South Orange police arrested a 16-year-old on Tuesday afternoon after he allegedly assaulted another youth and stole his backpack, authorities say.
According to the South Orange Police Department, the victim was walking on Tichenor Avenue around 1:30 p.m. when the 16-year-old and two male juvenile accomplices approached him.
At that time, the 16-year-old allegedly assaulted and robbed the victim of his backpack, then fled the scene in a small, black SUV, police said.

After an investigation, police detectives arrested the juvenile at his home, transported him to police headquarters and charged him with robbery, authorities said.
