The Week That Was in South Orange

On Monday, we wrote about South Orange's two new solar garbage compactors, a motorcycle accident from the previous night when a suspect was charged with eluding police, and the SOMA Artists Studio Tour. We had a story on South Orange native Stacey Kent, who's releasing her first all-French language record and a report on a teen dating abuse class at CHS. We also learned that Neelam had been closed by the Health Department after failing an inspection.

On Tuesday, we reported on a school-clearing bomb threat at Columbia High School and a three-week photography showcase that CHS students participated in at Pingry School.

On Wednesday, we had an analysis on the first year of the Super Essex Conference in local high school sports and a feature on how different local elementary schools deal with the phenomenon of Silly Bandz. We also had an announcement that the community pool will open on Saturday, June 19.

On Thursday, we had a story on an upcoming Rent Party performance featuring Willie Nile and Christine Santelli and a feature on a Rutgers-Newark professor from South Orange who teaches on the history of soccer. We also had a story and videos from the CHS Senior Recital Night for graduating musicians.

On Friday, we had a story on how South Orange Catholic schools are reacting to the expected closure of St. Joseph's in Maplewood and a roundup of local minor league baseball options.
