Truck Accident Closes South Orange Ave. on Monday Afternoon

Maplewood Ladder 31 and Rescue 36 responded to a one-vehicle accident and closed the westbound side of South Orange Avenue until 5 p.m. Driving conditions are slick.

This photo was sent by Captain Joseph Callaghan of the Maplewood Fire Department at 4:40 p.m. this afternoon. Amazingly, the one injured person was transported to St. Barnabas in good condition by Rescue 36. South Orange Avenue in the Reservation was closed to westbound traffic until about 5 p.m. Maplewood FD's Ladder 31 closed the westbound lane until fluids were cleared from the roadway.

Callaghan warns motorists to be careful. Roadways that were slick this afternoon will only become more so as temperatures dip into the 30s tonight.

"Drive carefully," said Callaghan. Those are words to live by. Literally.
