Videos Show Raging Building Fire In Downtown South Orange

The building houses a local restaurant on the ground floor.

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — Firefighters battled a raging fire at a building in South Orange last weekend.

The fire broke out Saturday afternoon on the 50-block of South Orange Avenue. Responding agencies included the South Essex Fire Department and other nearby fire departments.

South Orange Mayor Sheena Collum said the fire closed down South Orange Avenue between Sloan Street and Scotland Road.

No injuries were reported, Collum said, crediting the “swift action” of first responders at the scene.

Video footage shared online shows firefighters battling the blaze, with flames and thick smoke billowing from the roof of the building. Other footage shows firefighters rushing to a third-story window to rescue a woman inside – who eventually fled the building on her own, the New York Post reported.

The building also houses a local restaurant on the ground floor, Chris’s Family Diner, which was damaged in the fire, the Setonian reported.
