Village Apartments of the Jewish Federation Commemorates Veterans Day

Residents and guests shared their personal stories of service during World War II at South Orange senior living community.

Residents at Village Apartments of the Jewish Federation got to hear some exciting and poignant stories from World War II veterans in honor of Veterans Day. Murray Brill (right), a participant in the Essex County Kosher lunch program at Village Apartments, described how his plane was shot down over Germany, leading to his capture and escape. He also brought his Purple Heart medal to show everyone. Village residents and fellow WWII veterans Joe Posner (left) and Simon Gang also shared their recollections of their wartime experiences. Posner was wounded by German snipers and Gang was in the landing party on Normandy Beach. Village Apartments of the Jewish Federation is a host site for the congregate lunch program; Brill comes every Tuesday to enjoy a nutritious hot lunch and socializing with other seniors from the South Orange area.
